SPEAKER_12:What's really happening, everybody?
Monique Robinson:How are you? Merry Christmas, happy Kwanzaa, happy Hanukkah Christmas and all of those things.
SPEAKER_13:So glad to be here. Listen, I'm out here representing Howard University today. Okay, shirt on, proud HBCU. You know, I didn't have anything else to wear.
Monique Robinson:Okay, I'm I was shocked, it's not Bethune of Clark Atlanta. So I'm hey, I wore that.
SPEAKER_13:I wore Clark yesterday, I wore Bethune a couple days ago. Um, yeah.
Monique Robinson:I absolutely can't. So today we are absolutely live. I already told people be I know, right?
SPEAKER_13:So, what's going on? Here it is, December 23rd, 2025. Right? Yes, uh, it's a couple days before we get ready for the big one. Uh, listen, we already got somebody saying hello. Hey, so yes, we are here, we're live, we're in living color. So but don't forget to you know, first of all, like, comment, subscribe, follow, and share. Make sure you do all those things. So, whether you're watching it on YouTube or Facebook or LinkedIn right now, share with somebody else. If you want to chat, uh, we will let you know how we how you can uh get involved a little bit later if you want to come on and be part of the show at some part. Um, yeah, definitely, definitely.
Monique Robinson:Because if you can sing, we want to hear it today. We want to hear it.
SPEAKER_13:Oh my gosh, first of all, we have to tell the people, listen, it's been a while, girl. Let's do a quick check-in. Yes, well, um, first of all, in you are in let's see, wait a minute. You're in San Antonio, but you're on your way to Dayton, Ohio.
Monique Robinson:Yes, I'm on my way to Dayton. I don't have a winter coat, so pray for me.
SPEAKER_13:But you got with your pajamas, right? You got your onesie?
Monique Robinson:I got my onesie, I got my Christmas pajamas.
SPEAKER_13:Um that's about it.
Monique Robinson:But you know, somebody want to be so kind. You know, we do have a new thing on our screen now. We have our give-ify um QR code. So if it if it touched your heart and you want to sow into a seed into our mission this holiday, you can scan the QR code at the top of the screen.
SPEAKER_14:Yeah, right at the top of the screen.
Monique Robinson:Sure is and you know, help us while we are blessing people, but um, we've been getting ready for our icon and community awards, and it's been so oh MG, yes, so listen just the other day.
SPEAKER_13:We dropped some information about our annual HBCU community awards thing, and all of a sudden it went from zero to a hundred real quick.
Monique Robinson:Yeah, we got some nominations in there. Um I think the competition to watch this year is definitely the HBCU alumni of the year. Um a lot of people that's been nominated for that, but um, we have a new award for educators, so I'm shocked as many HBCU educators we have. We don't have very many nominations, so I mean I might just put my name in ahead. Put my name in a head.
SPEAKER_13:All right, but now this is up. Um we haven't chatted in a while. So hey everybody, just so you know, I know Monique probably like when you gonna tell it, when you gonna tell it. So shout out to the Enoch Grove Christian University. Um they were so nice, they gave you, you know, they were so nice, they gave your boy, they gave your boy an honorary doctor in Christian education and leadership.
SPEAKER_17:Oh yay, they're out here calling me they're out here calling me Dr.
SPEAKER_13:Brown. I'm honored, I am flattered, I am humbled by the opportunity. So thank you for that. Um, for the work I've done. Oh, and by the way, shout out the fact you know, um, I am not in Cleveland, Ohio.
Monique Robinson:What who told you you could go on a quick trip.
SPEAKER_14:Listen, I am actually in New York City.
Monique Robinson:Uh oh. Did you start? Did you sing as soon as you you got there?
SPEAKER_13:You know what? Me listen, first of all, my son on uh West 132nd in Broadway. So I'm right on Broadway, right? Bro, so Broadway is right outside the window.
Monique Robinson:Broadway, I would have been singing all through there.
SPEAKER_13:Uh you know, talk about start spreading the news.
SPEAKER_12:I see you today. I want to be a part of it in all New York. If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere. It's up to you, New York, New York.
SPEAKER_15:Yeah, you gotta show out. You should go, you know, yell it out the window, then sing it out.
SPEAKER_13:So listen, so it's been amazing being here. You know, I'll call him my man child. He's 28 years old, but uh this is still my baby. So excited about being here. This is I'm actually you know, this is week two. I've been here, I was here all last week. He had a performance, um, stage reading performance. Uh then we movies, we went shopping. I went to the African, uh, with the Malcolm Shabazz African market. I went to the hearing uh oh yeah. Um, so I went to Union Square, uh, went to their holiday market. Um I've been to Times Square in the subway. I've been to Times Square upstairs. Yes, I'm gonna go later on. I'm gonna go to Rockefeller. Um, we went and got Manny Petties today. We wouldn't got a face show. Tomorrow we're going doing a whole spa day. So it's been a whole Wusab relaxation, rest.
Monique Robinson:Well deserved. Well deserved. And that's what I that's what I honestly plan to do. Um, because all my friends, including my board members, who you will meet today, most of them, uh, including the board president, Dr. Anthony Brown. Um, but they always fuss at me and say, I never relax, I'm always working. So I listened to them this time, and um gonna take a chill out for a couple days.
SPEAKER_13:Definitely. So now let's talk about who else we have today on the show. Who else do we have today that we want to bring on?
Monique Robinson:Um, we have Dr. Gaucher.
SPEAKER_13:Um, let's bring Dr. Gaucher on.
Monique Robinson:Yes, she is actually one of our newest uh board members. She joined us this year, but she is one of the most like dedicated board members. Everybody's dedicated, but I'm like, I show up and she's like, I got it, I got it. I'm like, okay, well, fine, sis, handle your business. But um, she joined us this year, and she is really, really um, all in um and everything. So, yes, Dr.
SPEAKER_08:Gosher is here, and hey, hi everybody. Glad to be on the show.
SPEAKER_17:Yeah, she could just say on.
SPEAKER_08:She ain't tell us he hooked it, he hooked it up. Got a little new queen on there, so yeah.
SPEAKER_12:Oh, yeah, hold on. Let me just wait a minute. Wait a minute, let's give her a spot real quick.
SPEAKER_17:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_13:Tell us what's going on in your neck of the woods.
SPEAKER_04:Oh my goodness. Well, let's see. We uh well, I definitely enjoyed when we did the HBCU toy drive. That was phenomenal. We had um that I went in the store um because I haven't shopped for kids in a long time because all of mine is a grown grown with no grannies. Um, I went in into um Walmart and had to ask some kids that were looking at toys, like, hey, what should I get for for um I'm doing a toy drive, what should I get for these toys? And they was like, Well, kids like stuff they can squeeze and hold on to. And I'm like, shoot, I don't remember doing all that when I grew up. So, but anyway, they um they said y'all said get one toy, but my kids tail went in there and and and ended up with over two and something dollars worth of toys and still had to sit there and force myself to put toys back and then I turned around and and did the extra move and I wrapped them.
SPEAKER_13:Oh so listen, the table was cute. I'm quite sure the children who are gonna receive that are going to be highly pleased.
SPEAKER_04:Oh, yeah, because because I I didn't even realize just how much how many toys they have. Toys have changed. I'm like, my goodness, I saw a Barbie with with thick thighs. I'm like, wow, that's that was that was I think we have to do it.
SPEAKER_14:Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. A Barbie with thick thighs.
Monique Robinson:Yes, Barbie did she developed. Yeah, she had Barbie's got childbearing hips now.
SPEAKER_04:She got child bearing hips.
Monique Robinson:Barbie came wrong. I said, ooh, I said, what type of Barbie doll is this? I ain't never seen okay.
SPEAKER_04:That was newbie to me. I'm like, I remember the Barbie head from back in the day, and it's a practice on that head, but the head has shrunk over the years and it got small, so I'm like, them body parts came in, yeah, yes. And then I remember the y'all remember that dog, baby alive.
Monique Robinson:Oh, I didn't like that dog.
SPEAKER_04:Baby alive didn't change. Oh, I remember my cousin had one of those.
SPEAKER_13:Is that baby alive? Didn't you like urine on you aside? Yeah, yeah.
Monique Robinson:I didn't like it because people would be like, Here, hold this, and oh, I don't want that. Like, ew, that's gross. Yeah, that wasn't my favorite.
SPEAKER_13:So else do we have today as a guest on the show? I know we have some groups.
Monique Robinson:We have um Pinda. Um, Pinda is not here in San Antonio with Dr. Gaucher and myself, but Pinda is also Pinda been a board member for two years now. Um, and actually Penda's baby is home for her first time after being gone to Fayetteville. So Pinda actually, she's she's home for the holidays from Fayetteville.
SPEAKER_12:Yes, so wait, so let's bring Pinda on to the stage. Bye bye bye bye.
SPEAKER_17:Hey everybody, yeah.
SPEAKER_07:I might have to run out because that child is visiting a friend and she's gonna be like, Come and get me.
Monique Robinson:So how is it? She's back home, she missed school yet.
SPEAKER_07:Um, yeah, she's home. Home is her first. She's not doing anything that I've asked her to do, like apply for scholarships or um go find some community service to get your life together. But um, she I am glad that she has enjoyed this year at Fayetteville. She actually found a picture of herself from like two years ago. I think I sent that to you, Dr. Where she was it's a it's a uh Fayetteville um HBCU shirt, and I didn't she was like, I manifested this, mom. We were not living in North Carolina at the time. Like, I said, Where did you even get that shirt from? So here we are two years later, and she's walking in something she didn't even know she was going to be in. I just God is so faithful. And I'm gonna bag around listening to y'all, y'all got y'all doctors. One day I'm gonna be Dr. Pinda L James. Come on, you got it. Come on, come on.
SPEAKER_13:Like, wait, Pinda. Now, have you had the conversation with your daughter about the house rules, how her being a college student coming back home in the house?
SPEAKER_07:It's so because with the way the North Carolina laws are, she doesn't have her driver's license yet. Like, it's hard for people to get their driver's licenses here because it's like a six-month wait or something like that. And so I said I was joking, like, girl, I wish you could drive so I could just stay at home and watch TV. And I said, You could come home by your curfew. And she looked at me like, You would give me a curfew, yeah, girl, 11:30. Because I go to bed and I want to make sure you are safe, you know. Um, and so it's just really interesting because she does what she, you know, she's on campus, they go out and do what they want to do. But when you come home, girl, wash them dishes and uh, you know, come on home on time. Yeah, oh wow, that's we don't have to worry about her. We she she's she follows the rules, we don't have to worry about her. But I was surprised that she was surprised that she would have had a curfew, okay.
Monique Robinson:Hey, it happened because I mean I'm I'm with the mirrors, though, because that's probably why I didn't go home as much because my parents are old school.
SPEAKER_12:That's why you don't want to go home now.
SPEAKER_07:Go home, probably with them, but just come home by 11:30 because you know they go to bed.
SPEAKER_13:First of all, side note, can I just say real quick that it's been interesting living in my son's apartment because you never know what you're gonna get now? One day I smell somebody cooking some oxtails or some neck bones, but now it's like I smell somebody somebody outside. I just that's all I'm gonna say.
SPEAKER_07:Okay, somebody outside.
SPEAKER_13:It's it's a good outside aroma, just just kind of linking.
SPEAKER_07:Oh yeah, I feel anything.
SPEAKER_13:I went from you know, one night, then I the other day I smelled some Jamaica food, it was like real strong. I mean, it was like it smelled really amazing, but now, but right now it's loud.
SPEAKER_14:It's loud. That's funny.
Monique Robinson:That is too funny. I can't oh my gosh, can't take me nowhere before you before you came on, we were talking about toys. Yeah, have you seen have you seen some of the new Barbie dolls?
SPEAKER_07:I have not seen the Barbie dolls with the thick eyes change live. I'm gonna have to go, I'm gonna have to go check that out because as a thick girl, I always used to wonder why is Barbie so skinny, you know, but now they have now there's a Barbie for everybody, you know. Um Debbie Allen has a Barbie.
SPEAKER_13:I'm trying to find out where is this Barbie doll with fixed?
Monique Robinson:Walmart, Walmart, if Leah is watching, or Leon come on here. Leon is the one that actually bought the Barbie because we always looking at it like what why she look like that and we always he said that's the black girl rock Barbie.
SPEAKER_14:We're like that's funny, yeah. It was it was we we got to find her, we really have to find her okay.
SPEAKER_13:Okay with you today. So yeah, you lie in the music. I know you lie.
Monique Robinson:I probably if anybody got a picture of that Barbie though, minute, wait, you're gonna have me call him and tell him he needs to log on here because I'm telling you, he bought that Dr. Gosh, tell him I'm telling the truth.
SPEAKER_04:Oh yeah, oh yeah, she definitely is uh yeah, she Barbie Barbie has some thickums, showing it.
SPEAKER_14:Oh man.
Monique Robinson:I mean, not me and too much, but she also has uh chest too.
SPEAKER_17:Barbie was developed.
SPEAKER_13:Yeah, you found it. Okay you lying to me. This ain't Barbie.
Monique Robinson:That ain't the one we go up on, is it?
SPEAKER_13:That's Benita. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait a minute. Not Barbie Fascinates, waiting told you.
SPEAKER_07:Oh, she's pretty pretty though.
Monique Robinson:She got the is I think one of them had lots.
SPEAKER_07:Really? Oh, I need to find one of them.
SPEAKER_17:He came in there with it.
SPEAKER_14:We was like, ladies and gentlemen, they are seriously.
SPEAKER_17:I'm not ready.
SPEAKER_14:Yeah, I am not ready.
SPEAKER_08:Barbie has changed.
Monique Robinson:She is not the same.
SPEAKER_07:Yeah, there's a documentary about it on Netflix about Barbie. That is so amazing. Uh-uh.
Monique Robinson:The Barbie fashionistas. I can't.
SPEAKER_12:He ain't got a beard.
Monique Robinson:But see, yes. Okay. See.
SPEAKER_17:I wasn't ready. I wasn't ready.
Monique Robinson:We weren't even. I was looking at every toy that came in there. I was looking like, what is it? Why do you look like this?
SPEAKER_12:I need a mark. Listen, I I heard people say things thighs saved lives.
Monique Robinson:Hot Mess.com.
SPEAKER_13:So it's the outside getting to me. It's the outside. Yeah.
Monique Robinson:The outside is outside it, is what you're saying. Huh, there we go.
SPEAKER_13:So anyway, with that said, so now listen, uh, for those who are watching us, whether you're watching us on the live or you're watching us on the replay, uh, again, a better chance for youth futures. And and and these are again some members of our board who here I have the uh distinct pleasure of serving as the board uh chair, president, and so glad to be a part of this. Most of the work we do is it's in the San Antonio area. However, you know, because the pendant and I being across the country, we are able to extend that love and work um and exposure in other parts of the country, as well as the support. Because some of the things that we do are not just based here in San Antonio, but we do our scholarship program, which you know reaches students and families across the country, as well as um our uh HBCU awards that we're gonna be doing this May 2026. Um it's gonna be a Royal uh affair. Listen, we're bigger, we're better, we're bolder. Listen, it's gonna be a time. Um, so if you haven't or never been before, listen. Um Pend is like I got to figure out how I'm gonna get there. Listen, so I need Penn to hear this.
SPEAKER_02:Y'all need that QR code so we can get pin to hear this. I gotta get there.
SPEAKER_13:We're gonna have to find some ways to gift her some frequency flyer miles or something.
Monique Robinson:That part, you hit this, hit that QR code, and we're gonna create fun to get pin to hear voice because if you haven't experienced it, it's it's different. Now I'm be honest. This time we will not have problems with food.
SPEAKER_13:I mean nonetheless, we're gonna have an amazing time. Well, Nick, you want to just tell them about some of the the new highlights that we got coming up for this for this coming year?
Monique Robinson:This year, we are actually being hosted by the Double Tree San Antonio Airport Hotel. Um lovely, lovely, lovely place. And uh what they're gonna do for that Friday, we're gonna have, I guess um, some people call it a kickback, some people call it just hospitality time, and we'll be there. And then that Saturday we will have the awards. We actually have youth performers this year. That's new for us. So we have some young people that will come out and perform. I'm not gonna spill all the tea on that just yet. Um, and then we also have um our first class, our inaugural class of HBCU community icons. And I am extremely excited. I have talked to all of those recipients, and I could write a book about each one of them. And those are the schools that they all represent. So I'm excited about this part of the program, but I'm even more excited about our two new categories for the People's Choice Awards. So we have in People's Choice this year, we've never done a high school student that is headed to an HBCU. So if you know a high school student headed to an HBCU, nominate them because that category is kind of slim right now. But um, and then we also added an educator award because there's so many HBCU educators that don't get their flowers. And that category is um got a couple, but not as much as that HBCU alum of the year. So it's it's epic this year.
SPEAKER_13:I'm like, Holly, they already nominating folks, but yeah, so so yes, again, so this is gonna be the people's choice awards, they're back bigger, bolder, and royal. Um, it's the South Texas HBU Community Awards. Again, like we said, even though it's based in South Texas, San Antonio area, we are taking nominations and recommendations for some of the categories from across the country. So we do hope that you can join us and be a part of this. It's gonna be Saturday, May 30th, 2026. Um, and the time will be had now. If you got to be careful now, because Monika going, she'll change clothes like five or six times. I don't know where she gets that shenanigans from.
Monique Robinson:I just like to change clothes. I mean, last year it was only three, it was three, yeah, yeah, it was three. But this year uh I have a uh Royal African garb.
SPEAKER_14:Listen, speaking of African garb.
Monique Robinson:Oh here we go.
SPEAKER_13:Well, I could go change clothes right now, but I'm not I'm not gonna do it. I'm not gonna go.
Monique Robinson:We're not fooling with you today.
SPEAKER_13:With we know because you always catch them with good sale. So anyway, what we say, you said something about it. People are gonna be singing and dancing today. What are we doing?
SPEAKER_11:What's happening?
Monique Robinson:Well, we have um some young people that are um skilled in African dance, so this year we will have those young people coming to perform, and then we also have um another trooper dance. I was like, I might have to suit up, come out of retirement, and dance with them. Y'all might not be ready for that.
SPEAKER_08:Come on, come on with it. Come on. Speaking my language, right?
Monique Robinson:Like, don't get it twitchy. Oh, you ain't ready.
SPEAKER_09:On that note, let's take a quick commercial break. Celebrate the excellence of HPCU with the HPCU trivia game. This board game provides an exciting and educational way to learn about notable alumni, historical events, sports news, and more. This trivia game is sure to be a fit and perfect for college found youth alumni and the entire family. Don't miss out on this opportunity to support, educate, and entertain the HBCU Trivia Game today. Go to HBCU Trivia Game.net to order.
SPEAKER_13:And speaking of the HBCU Trivia Game, listen, you can find it at just about any HBCU campus if they have a Follett bookstore on campus, such as Howard University. Um, that's like you know, when I actually was on Howard University's campus a couple weeks ago, um, I was able like I wish I went to the bookstore and saw the game right there on the bookshelf and got really excited about it. So you can find it on any Follett bookstore uh campus over HBCU, as well as you can go to HBCU Trivia Game.net. I guarantee you if you use the promo code Brown, um, I might be able to save you a couple dollars. It's a great activity to be able to use for your family, your friends, and even so much the fact to utilize and help your young people learn more about HBCUs. So, as a matter of fact, if we got a little time, I might even queer some of you all today and see how much HBCU knowledge you all know today.
SPEAKER_02:What prizes are you talking about? Oh, that was I play for that.
SPEAKER_13:Listen, I was like, oh prizes. I might listen, I might send you a Dunkin' Donut gift card. How about that?
Monique Robinson:Oh man, okay, that's fair.
SPEAKER_13:That's fair.
Monique Robinson:You do you you do know Maurice is actually one of our icon recipients this year.
SPEAKER_11:Really?
Monique Robinson:Yes, I told him I was like, every time I bring a game, somebody ends up taking it, or I feel sorry for the kid and give it to him. But yes, and he he was so excited, and that's one of the reasons, too, why we're doing the icons. I got one around here somewhere.
SPEAKER_13:I know I got a box of it. So actually, so while I'm here in New York, um outside of visiting my son, right? Um, I didn't have a chance to go. I had a thing, didn't have a speaking engagement while I was here. So I did a little a little bit of work. I did a little bit of work. So I did go. So thanks to our good friend, oh Vanessa Sparks. Matter of fact, we got us. I need to send her this link so she'd be watching the show. So I went to go to I went to Queens um the other day. I went to Queens last Thursday. Uh spent the whole day in Queens. I had a chance to visit two high schools. I went to Eagle Prep uh Academy. Yeah, um in Queens, all boys' school, sixth through 12th grade, about 500 plus young men doing some phenomenal, exceptional work um in that area. We were able to gift about 15 seniors the opportunity to complete the common block college application. That's one application that goes to over 28, over 60 HBCUs, and I paid the application fee for them as I as a like Merry Christmas. So we're gonna remove the barrier of college access to do that for those scholars. Um that was my first visit of the day, and then we also then went later on that afternoon. We went to the HBCU Early College Prep High School. I want to go there, only high school in the country that has an affiliation with a historically black college. So now there are some other HBCU centric schools, but this one has a direct connect. So every student um is dual enrolled in the high school and Delaware State University.
SPEAKER_02:That's so nice.
Monique Robinson:Like I read about it, but I really want to go visit there. Like, I need that.
SPEAKER_13:Yeah, so this is their inaugural year. They accepted 100 uh ninth graders this to this school year. It's a criteria school, so you have to apply to get in, even though it's a part of the New York City Schools uh school district. You still have to apply at the interview and apply to get in. And once you're in, it's a very rigorous uh curriculum because you're both taking high school courses and college prep courses, um, or college level courses at the same time, even at ninth grade. And so they and when I was there the other day, they were actually prepping for their finals. Um they've taken two classes of their day were college classes. So the goal is by the time they graduate from high school, they will have earned nearly, if not, uh up to 60 plus college credits, um, with a direct access into Delaware State University.
SPEAKER_07:Um that's phenomenal. Yes, that is so phenomenal at no cost to them, that is so phenomenal. So I thought that was whoever the visionary was for that is like just out of this world. That is phenomenal.
SPEAKER_13:Shout out to Dr. Johnson, the the founding principal there, and because she's also Delaware State grad, so she was able to go those connections with her alma mater. Um, but at the same time, you know, they're gonna you know be a direct pipeline to any other HBCU. So that's the whole goal. Like, you know, if you're not going to Delaware State, then you gotta go to one of our HBCUs. You know, that's it, that's all.
SPEAKER_07:That's just that's the kind of work I want to do in this world. Like, I want to be life-changing like that. That is that's phenomenal.
SPEAKER_13:So that was amazing. That was an amazing experience, you know. Uh so next year they will enroll another group of ninth graders. So the each year they'll just keep adding on another group of students until they get to their first graduating class. So again, shout out to both of those schools in Queens. And you know, so that was the phenomenal day to spend time with you know, with both of those while I was there. Uh uh, but while I'm here, also I'm going to New Rochelle, uh, New York. I'll be going there on the 28th of December, where we'll be spending time with some HBCU students and some high school students and alumni in that community because we're going to be actually doing a Kwanzaa celebration. Uh yes, HBCU Kwanzaa celebration. So that's gonna be fun. And while we're there while we're there, we're gonna do the whole HBCU event where we're gonna do a panel discussion about the 15 things that make our HBCUs unforgettable, and we're gonna be playing the HBCU trivia game live, and then somebody's gonna walk away with the board game.
Monique Robinson:That's gonna be fun. That's gonna be fun. So I I'm I'm glad that those opportunities are available, and I think that's one of the things that I kind of miss about being in that type of um being like more inner city and not Tex Mex is that you get those um cultured events. So I'm looking forward to that. Come on, truth, let's go. I'm I'm looking forward to that. I I mean, I'm looking forward to seeing that this week.
SPEAKER_13:Hopefully, I'll be able to at least go live for a moment and be like, Hey, I'm here. Um, so those are some of the moments here. So, nonetheless, let's talk about what else is going on. Now, now wait, Monique said something about that. Some of you are gonna be singing today. We're doing a talent show today or something.
Monique Robinson:Yeah, we do a talent show. Pender set back so quick. He was like, She said, Not today. I'll do trivia, but I ain't singing. She said, I'll do the trivia. I'll play the game, but she said, but wait a minute now. You gotta sing your favorite Christmas song.
SPEAKER_07:I can't sing it by myself because it's it's um it's silver bells. I gotta know that. I gotta know that.
SPEAKER_17:I gotta that silver bells.
Monique Robinson:Don't nobody sing no silver bells.
SPEAKER_07:Yes, it is all the harmony. That's Carolina Bell. Oh, I am cracking up. That one, yes, I love that, but you have to have a whole group to sing that with you. I figure it out. Give me, give me something, give me something before I have to go.
Monique Robinson:Hey, baby, hey baby, my side hurts.
SPEAKER_07:That's what we're here for is to keep the laughter going.
Monique Robinson:Oh god. You know what? This year I did not get my paper bag at church, and I was I wasn't disappointed.
SPEAKER_07:Yeah, we talked about this last year with the apple and uh they gave a candy cane.
Monique Robinson:I mean, I the kids, my you know what? Shout out to True Vision. Those kids showed up and showed out last Sunday. Hands down. Like, I have never like I grew up in the church and youth programs, you know, you get the same Easter Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day speeches, and you just be like, okay. When I say them kids routed, I thought it was like a sister act type of pro they brought them kids showed up and showed out. So amazing job to that the youth department. Like they had the puppets, y'all. Y'all remember the old school puppet, the praise puppet? I was like, and usually I you know, allegedly I duck out after you know eight o'clock service and gone about my business. But this week I stayed because I was ready for Sunday school. But when I say those kids, they done re remixed the Mantel Jordan, this is how we do it, and did a welcome speech out of it. I was like, This is yes, they those kids showed up and showed up.
SPEAKER_04:Wow. Well, we went when we went to Vegas, this was no, not this last one, but earlier this month. If you have not seen Mariah Carey's Christmas show, you are missing a treat. She has so many kids that danced and and the the scenery, the whole show is phenomenal. So, and then if you go to Vegas on the record, the um what is it? It's called On the Record, it's a club, and it's got you can take pictures with um, and they just playing her music and they're playing clips from the show. It's beautiful, it's it's really beautiful. So yeah, it was good.
SPEAKER_13:Oh my gosh, I'm sorry, I was multi- I was trying to text the video the the link to I'm trying to copy this. So I'm ah there we go. Like, where why am I struggling here? All right, so we live that we normally pre-record. I know, right? And so in a few moments, we are going to be playing the HBCU trivia game. We're gonna be hunting the trivia game of virtual, and we're gonna see how many of you all know something when it's out to sound okay. And while we're doing this, why don't we introduce one of our other board members who just who are who is just joining us?
Monique Robinson:Oh that's the singer, that's the one gonna sing for you.
SPEAKER_13:Oh, she's gonna sing for us today while she's trying to pin her hair up, trying to pin she's pinning her hair up so she can so she can look drop dead gorgeous for us.
SPEAKER_02:Ain't nobody had time for her today.
SPEAKER_13:Ah, y'all, somebody show some love for our girlfriend P Sha.
SPEAKER_16:Hey, I had to do my other job.
SPEAKER_06:I apologize, I apologize, but I'm here, I'm here.
SPEAKER_13:How are you today?
SPEAKER_06:Um you know, I'm good, you know. Uh I'm excited about the M OK march that you know San Antonio's hosting. So we're uh I was talking to the chair, the March chair, and real, really excited about what we're gonna be offering our city and HBC Tribune, and she went, she just jumped all the way to January.
SPEAKER_13:I'm not managing.
SPEAKER_06:I showed it, you know why?
SPEAKER_13:Because I just you know you took a wait, miss you know how I feel about MLK in San Antonio, whatever.
SPEAKER_06:We're not gonna talk about that. We're not gonna talk about not you, you're not gonna do my city like that now. You could text me your your concerns and your comments. You could text me, but y'all don't look at me like that, Mr. Brown.
Monique Robinson:I can't with y'all. Well, y'all supposed to be talking about Christmas anyway, so I'm not.
SPEAKER_06:Sorry, my bad.
SPEAKER_13:Hey Vanessa.
Monique Robinson:Hey, Miss Vanessa.
SPEAKER_13:Vanessa, we're about to get ready to play the HBCU trivia game. So I want you to be ready to see how much how much you know. Let not don't send them the stream yard link, but send them the YouTube link or something right now so they can be able to be like, Oh, come on and watch right now so they can play the game.
Monique Robinson:Um Dunkin' Donuts.
SPEAKER_06:My first answer, Howard. No, my second answer is wrong again.
Monique Robinson:It's still wrong.

And if you don't believe me, then I don't know what to tell you. That's it.
SPEAKER_14:Okay, well, there you go.
SPEAKER_06:I was about to just off the call to get some more donations, but you know, it's cool.

SPEAKER_06:Jingo Bells, Batman Smells, Robin Lady Nan. Other controls.
SPEAKER_07:Yeah. That means they not sing it.
Monique Robinson:If you if you are watching and you got vocal skills, put it in the chat and we will have you come on here and you get your grandstand of you telling everybody else to sing.
SPEAKER_07:You are the songbird.
SPEAKER_06:Don't play with you and Anthony are the singers. So why are we even having this issue today? Like, I don't get it. Like, you already know you got the vocals.
Monique Robinson:That's because I like to share the wealth. I like to hear other people.
SPEAKER_07:I didn't gift my vocal cords with gold.
SPEAKER_06:Hey, here you go.
SPEAKER_07:Oh, the missiles.
SPEAKER_06:Oh that's what I do. I tell people, no, stop. Not the whole thing.
SPEAKER_17:She was in the room with it.
SPEAKER_08:I'm trying to see.
SPEAKER_14:Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_13:Okay. All right. All right. All right. All right. So now listen. So I you will need your technology. Do you need your device for those who are watching? SPEAKER_07:I changed mine.
SPEAKER_06:How do you change a pinnacle?
SPEAKER_07:That don't make me click on the uh click on the raccoon with pancakes.
Monique Robinson:That don't even oh I see it.
SPEAKER_06:Okay, there we go. They know I like pancakes though.
SPEAKER_07:That's funny.

SPEAKER_07:No, don't do that.
SPEAKER_06:Technique, Monique, the answers. Thank you.
SPEAKER_07:Did y'all watch the battle of the bands or the best band? Or yeah, my band won. Your band won? Fayetteville was there. We watched it. It was so amazing. Who was there, Pinder? Fayetteville. Oh, that's awesome. Yeah, they went this year. No, her friend is in the band. So we watched to see her friend.
Monique Robinson:But you know what? Wilberforce band, you know, had a release for real.
SPEAKER_07:So I know I saw that. I wish we would have had a band when I was in school. Right. We didn't have nothing but a basketball team and the jazz.
Monique Robinson:In the choir.
SPEAKER_07:In the choir, yeah. A little in the cornfields, but I'm glad we're coming up.
Monique Robinson:Uh-oh. Somebody put the shades up. Did he log on the plate?
SPEAKER_08:Log on the plate. He did watching the shoot. Yeah, he's watching it.
Monique Robinson:Tell me he got a log on the plate.
SPEAKER_08:Yeah.
SPEAKER_06:So what's the prize? Oh. Big back, big back. That's who I am.
Monique Robinson:Did you know that the TikTok shop got Big Back Honey Buns?
SPEAKER_13:I'm trying to invite some more people to the game.
Monique Robinson:Oh. I was wondering because I said this must be the LP version.
SPEAKER_06:I'm waiting for the game to start because your girl is hungry.
SPEAKER_02:Oh Lord.
SPEAKER_06:I had a kalachi and a and a piece of a chicken wing. That's what I had all day.
Monique Robinson:Uh-oh. What's wrong with this guy? Yeah.
SPEAKER_06:Hustling.
Monique Robinson:Uh oh.
unknown:Aware you from.
SPEAKER_13:So again, if you're just joining us, again, we are playing the HPC trivia game right now. Live. So we're gonna put the code back up on the screen. It's playing, we're playing via Kahoot. So you'll see a code on the screen. Then you gotta have your phone and be ready to play with us so you can be able to be part of the fun and the action. So there is the code right there. So you gotta have Kahoot. If you're on your device right now, you can scan that QR code. If you got you, you know, you gotta if you're on your computer, you can scan on your phone, or if you are Kahoot got it, and there is the code. You can join us right now. I got two of them, and I can use a few more. And yes, I got some Dunkin' Donut gift cards to give away.
Monique Robinson:Matter of fact, hold on, let me make sure it's uh uh take a picture of it in Times.
unknown:It don't matter where you're coming from, because we are still family.
Monique Robinson:You just gonna have a race out of this. You're gonna let me play.
SPEAKER_14:I got a dunk and donut. Oh give away.
Monique Robinson:Yes, I do. Oh you don't know what I eat.
SPEAKER_06:I eat Dunkin' Donuts, I eat Starbucks. I eat it all.
SPEAKER_13:Oh yeah, so let's do let's do fifteen dollars for first play. Oh second play and five dollars for third play.
Monique Robinson:Dr. Gochey, you playing? Huh? I'm watching.
SPEAKER_04:I'm watching, I'm working in the background. I'm reading the background, but I didn't share it though.
SPEAKER_13:So tell the people to come on.
Monique Robinson:Come on in the room.
SPEAKER_13:You guys say I got folks watching, but I need the people to come and play with us.
SPEAKER_06:Y'all got three minutes.
SPEAKER_13:So anybody else, please tell them to join us right now. And um, if you're watching Facebook and YouTube, I got a fifteen dollars, ten dollars, and follow with the Dunkin' Donuts gift card because America runs on Dunkin'.
SPEAKER_07:They need they are not a sponsor, they probably is.
SPEAKER_13:So you don't need to they're one of my sponsors.
Monique Robinson:Are they budging? Get them gift cards.
SPEAKER_13:Okay, so Dunkin' Donuts is one of my sponsors that I use for a lot of my family and community engagement when I'm working in the school district, and so have a little few leftovers. So they like, hey, give them away when you can, but these expired December 31st, that's why I'm trying to get rid of them okay. Now, mind you, I'm gonna go use them myself because it's a Dunkin' Donut, that's a 24-hour Dunkin' Donut, like right up the street from me.
SPEAKER_07:Wow, somebody won't.
SPEAKER_13:I could use them myself because I'm ready to play.
SPEAKER_12:Oh, she said, I'm ready to play. I need at least a third player. Monique, just log in.
SPEAKER_07:Yeah, send it out. Somebody log in before I gotta go.
SPEAKER_13:Uh, as a matter of fact, let me see. For those who are watching right now, but those who are watching right now, we did put the link in the chat. Um, so matter of fact, yes, if you want to click the link in the chat right now for those who are watching us, put the link in the chat. Easier for me. You can just click the link in the chat. All right, come on. So I'm waiting for some people to come on board um to join us and play the game. I got two people. I need at least we'd love to have at least two more. We'd love to have at least two more.
Monique Robinson:I shared it with three people right now, but I can't give no answers though. I promise I won't.
SPEAKER_11:Let's see, who else do we want to invite? We know some students can be holding somebody's group chat. Some of you will hold in somebody's group chat. Let's see, right now.
SPEAKER_13:Share, share the wealth, let somebody else know that we are live right now, and we are waiting on a few more people to join us again. Right now, you can play for 15, 10, or$5 Dunkin' Donut the gift card because America runs on Dunkin'. Yeah, we do. I don't know. I might need to go join us. I'm gonna go have a cup of coffee right now while you're playing.
SPEAKER_11:Who else that would have sent this to?
SPEAKER_13:Oh. Alright, so we got anybody else that then joined us? Let's see.
SPEAKER_06:You get what you get and you don't throw a fit.
SPEAKER_13:Ha ha. And it might just be the two, but oh you know what?
SPEAKER_07:Hey, you can always do another round if other people join.
SPEAKER_13:If they join, I suppose. So they can still join even while the game is.
SPEAKER_07:Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_13:You know, it just they might have to work a little bit harder. Again, for those who are just joining us, yeah. I see I got 12 folks watching us online right now. So if you got if you're watching us, come on, come on and play. Come on and play. Um, oh, I know what I should do. I'm gonna put it in one more group chat. And be like, hey, right now, we're playing live. We are playing live right now. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11:Mommy, matter of fact, why don't we invite George?
Monique Robinson:I was asking people to come and play. Because it won't be fair. Like, I've I've I know this is this game, and I don't want to cheat y'all, even though I do like the win.
SPEAKER_13:So all right, well, we'll just leave this up on the screen just in case somebody wants to join in. Um we're gonna go to the case.
Monique Robinson:So it's P and P P and P against each other. Oh, this is gonna be good.
SPEAKER_13:All right, so the game is real simple. For those who've never played Kahoot before, we're gonna be going down some hot questions. Vanessa, she's trying to get in. Uh um, again, Vanessa, we've put the link in the um there's somebody else named Nessa.
SPEAKER_06:Come on, let's do this, Brutus.
SPEAKER_13:Oh, she's in there, all right. Vanessa, we got you in. All right, who beans? All right, so we're gonna see how much you all know. Game is real simple. Once we get started, you answer by responding to the appropriate questions on your device. We will then reveal the question on the screen. So, a lot of this is gonna be all this is HBCU related. We're gonna be talking about some myths, some misnomers, and some facts. All this, some of these questions are derived from the actual game, the HBCU trivia game, um, that you can purchase right now at HBCU trivia game.net. And again, if you use the promo code Brown, you can get a few dollars off. It won't come in time for the holidays, but it'd be great by the time you get back to school for those educators who are in the room. So, with that said, let's go and get this game. Started right. Let's get this party started. Bombay. Okay. Three. Two. One. Question number one. What HBC was first founded as a Baptist institute in 1879? Is it for Lambda Smith University? Florida Memorial? Wiley College or Central State University. The correct answer is Florida Memorial University located in Miami, Florida.
SPEAKER_06:Philander just don't, you know.
SPEAKER_13:Oh, nobody got that one. Okay. No, they're just joining us again. And you can go to Kahoot.it and you see the pin number at the bottom of the screen, 271-646. You still got a chance because right now nobody is on the board. Let's go to the next question. Question number two: which HBCU is ranked number one nasty for placing African Americans into medical school? Is it Tuskegee University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Tulane University, or Wright State University? Which answer is the correct answer? It is numbered. It's the second one. Xavier University is the correct answer. Let's go. Who is on the board this round? Boo, you suck. Let's go. Vanessa with 932 points. Question number three on which HBCU campus where most of the black real organizations were founded? Is it Morgan State University, Howard University, Indiana University, or Cornell University? And the correct answer is Howard University. Yes. For the most part, many of our Black Greek letter organizations were most of them were founded at Howard University. If not your first chapter, your second chapter was. So congratulations for those who got that answer. Look, everybody, I got three people on the board. Let's go.
SPEAKER_12:Oh uh come on, Penn. Oh, I see you out here with some points.
SPEAKER_13:On March 12, 1944, a secret basketball matching integrated Dukes University team marking the first integrated game. Was it Livingstone College, Talladega College, North Carolina Central University, or was it Brazil Cookman University? And the correct answer is North Carolina Central University, the first integrated basketball game. Yes. Oh, somebody is on a streak.
SPEAKER_07:These questions are so good.
SPEAKER_13:But Nessa, three correct answers in a row. Again, if you're just joining us and you're watching us live right now, hopefully you are learning something new about HBCUs. Um you may not have known from before. All right, let's keep this game going, right? But now question number five it's a multi-selected means could be more than one answer. Name the founder of UNCF. Is it William H. Grant the third, John D. Rockefeller the second, Freddy D. Patterson, or Dr. Mary McLeod Pathone? It can be more than one answer. Y'all can talk amongst yourselves if y'all want to talk about it. There we go.
SPEAKER_06:Oh, it's multiple questions. Oh, I just thought it was his one. Anyway, my girl put um, yeah.
SPEAKER_13:So actually, so those who did not know, the correct answer is actually Mary McLain and Dr. Frederick Patterson. Ah, teachable moment. So, if you did not know, so actually, the idea was Dr. Mary McLain's idea first. But listen, back in 1944, when the body went to a black woman, so she called her good friend Frederick Patterson. He light skinned, fair skinned African-American man. She said, Listen, Fred, I got this idea. Why don't we work together and collaborate and unite our fundraising efforts and we could be collaborative? So at that point, 27 HBCUs got together and decided, hey, let's do this. So Frederick Patterson was the one. He wrote the paper, he wrote an article to the Pittsburgh Courier. Um, then and said, Hey, we are here, we have we've been here, let's do this. We are just some Negro schools trying to raise money for our institutions, and they did it. And hey, come on, Dr. Wall. You are more than welcome to get in. Um the code is uh cahoot.it, and the number is 271646. Now, y'all better watch out for Dr. Calvin Wall because he's gonna come in here and try to sneak the game. He's gonna come in here and try to take over. I know he is, I know he is. So, and that's how UNCF got started with the two of them, and now for over 80 plus years, UNCF been is up one of the is one of the nation's premier organizations to helping students get to and through college. And for more information, you can go to uncf.org to um to apply. All right, so with that, then you are moving on up, moving on up. Come on, come on, I see you all here.
Monique Robinson:Who in the league, Piscia?
SPEAKER_06:No, but that's all right, I'm third place.
SPEAKER_13:Uh so that the wall cahoot.it seven two seven one six four six. No, two seven one. I had the wrong number. 271 6146. There we go. 27164 6146. I can't get my numbers right. 271 6146. If you want to still join the game, we're still early, only five questions in. You can still come in here and sweep this thing if you know the answer. Is question number six. Choosing the college that's right for you is based on what where my friends are going, the most popular major research, where my parents went to school, or the opinion of others, or the game I saw on TV. This is something that Vanessa would always tell her students when she's working with students, you know, especially those who are looking for finding that right decision. You gotta do your research, ladies and gentlemen. Then you decide on where you want to go. Again, now, again, for those who's on the screen, Monique, how you coming along? How do you think our players are doing so far, Monique?
Monique Robinson:Uh-oh. I think they're doing good. I have some people that's in the chat trying to log on to the game that's in one of the different groups. Um, but I do like that it's a teachable moment. I didn't play because I won it, you know, before, you know, so I'm I'm trying to be nice, is as hard as it is, because I do want those$15 gift cards.
SPEAKER_13:But it's just so again, for those who are just joining us and watching us, I got a$15 gift card, a$10 gift card, and a$5 gift card for anyone from Duncan because America runs a Duncan. Um, just so you can have you that little break, you know, in the midday morning, or if you like me, there's a 24-hour Dunkin' Donuts right down the street from where I stay, right on Broadway. They say the Neon Lines are right on Broadway. I hear you can heard the harmony, didn't you? I heard it. I heard it. All right, let's get back to the game.
Monique Robinson:Oh, we need Peach to win these Duncan things.
SPEAKER_06:How many movies? This losing strength is sad. Look at me. I'm just sad.
Monique Robinson:I got you, friend. I got you.
SPEAKER_13:Question number seven. This hbcu is located in Oklahoma. O K-L-A-H-O-M-A Oklahoma.
SPEAKER_06:I think you know it's not praying, you no, it's Langston because I remember on on uh College Hill.
SPEAKER_02:The stuff that she remembers.
SPEAKER_07:I got that wrong.
SPEAKER_06:I got it. I think she moved up. No, I still suck.
SPEAKER_13:Vanessa over here, Miss Vanessa. What type of students do UNCF member institutions support in their pursuit of higher education? Do we support Mexican Americans? All the above, Native Americans or African Americans?
Monique Robinson:That's a trick question.
SPEAKER_13:And the correct question is all of the above. UNCF since 1944 has been very diverse from the very beginning, even though we were starting to support uh minority institutions, we have never discriminated against anybody. Never ever, never have I ever. Yes. So Dr. Gosher, I know you're not playing playing, but how are you coming so far? Did you know some of these?
SPEAKER_04:Uh uh. I'm learning. Okay.
SPEAKER_13:Okay, so for those who are watching us again, make sure you like, comment, follow, subscribe, and share. And let somebody else. Matter of fact, this might be a teachable moment just for you as well at the same time. All right, so let's keep that game going. Next question. I'm at to get that game. What is the document used to apply the various HBCUs at one time? Is it schoology.com? Uh oh, y'all were quick on the draw for that one. It is, yes, the common black college application. One application, it goes to multiple HBCUs with one fee. Speaking of which, let's take a quick commercial break and talk about the common black college application.
SPEAKER_10:Are you interested in attending an historically black college at university? Hello. My name is Robert D. I'm president and founder of the Common Black College Application. Our application allows students to apply to over 50 historically black colleges and universities at the same time for only$20. HBCU graduates have been some of the most renowned individuals in their respective fields since 1190. In addition to that, our faculty and staff are truly committed to your success and they have a vested interest in seeing that you do it. That, coupled with the academic rigor and the fact that you will establish lifelong relationships, are just some of the many benefits of your attended and historically black college university. So if you're interested in completing the Common Black College app, visit our website at commonblackcollegeapp.com to apply now. Thank you and get educated.
SPEAKER_13:And as Robert Mason said, let's get educated again. This is maybe even a gift that you want to pay it for. You can actually pay the application in advance for another student and share it as they get bailed to come back from winter break and allow students to be able to complete the application. So let's remove the college barrier access for some students. Allow them, you know, for many of you all you remember applying to college when you were going to school, application fees can be 25, 30, sometimes$50 per application. But with this application, one application, all 60 plus schools in the portal get access to it. So you have to worry about having to send it to each one, all 60 get it at the same time, and that student has a chance to interface with the high school with those with those college advisors and counselors. Your high school counselor will be able to upload a transcript immediately, and that way you can start to get all of those interests, all of those feedback, those scholarship offers, those award letters. So many times when you see students who are celebrating that they got to cover too many HBCUs at one time, in most cases than not, they use the common black college application. So take advantage of it, commonblackcollege app.com for more information and to get started. Hey, so ladies, how are we coming so far on the game? Y'all doing all right over here?
SPEAKER_07:Doing all right. I'm learning a lot too.
SPEAKER_13:All right, so let's get back to the game. Not trying to get them any levels and let me not give them any shine. So we're not even gonna mention what that tune was. Let's keep it going. Next question. Remember, let's see when the who and Vanessa that's amazing. Y'all better come on. This NCAA Division II school was created as an independent institution to educate freedmen, women, and their children. Is it St. Augusta's University, Evan Warner's University, Florida Ham University, or Tugaloo College? Ooh. I don't know. Headed in Florida. The first HBCU in the state of Florida at Waters University. Wow. Ah, Vanessa knew that one. Wow. Which HBU did WEV the boys attend?
SPEAKER_06:I got that wrong too, probably.
SPEAKER_13:Oh no, I got it right. Yes, good old WEB Du Bois. Yes, we did, but you gotta be quicker than that to get on that top, that number one spot. This HBCU is the number one producer of black aerospace engineers in the United States. Is it Alabama AM Tuskegee, Grandpa State, or the University of Arkansas at Pine Block?
SPEAKER_11:Come on, Tuskegee.
SPEAKER_06:That was George Washington Carver helping me with that.
SPEAKER_11:Come on, bro. And the peanuts that was it's a multitude.
SPEAKER_13:I mean you can choose more than one answer. By law, name one criteria to be considered an HBCU. Principal mission is to educate everyone. Founded for 1964, educate African Americans only, must be primarily located in the South. Ah, yes, it is. By law. Ah, let's go there. Wow. First play. Let's see who has moved up. Pendlet, like, I did not know.
SPEAKER_07:I didn't know.
SPEAKER_13:So let's talk about it. You know, I should listen. I don't know, Monique. We should somehow see if we could bring Vanessa onto the screen. Can we send Vanessa the link so she can join us on the link if she if she's available? But for those who did not know, let's add this teachable moment real quick. So historically Black Housing Universities, you know, again, we've been around since late 1800s. However, it was not until 1965 with the Higher Education Act of 1965 that Lyndon B. Johnson and members of the United States Congress signed the Higher Education Act. And when they said, um, that's where we got the label HBCU from. So again, we were just Negro schools in in the late 1800s.
SPEAKER_14:We got the label HBCU in 1965. When we got this label, the government said you can be an HBCU only if one you educate all people. But you know, you had to educate African Americans, but you couldn't exclude anybody.
SPEAKER_13:Yeah, you can have this title, but you can't exclude nobody. Had to be accredited by some accrediting association. In most cases, who runs the accrediting association? People who don't who didn't look like us. And three, you had to be filing for 1964. That's how we got the label HBCU. But again, we've been doing this since the very first HBCU started in 1837 with Cheney University. Now I'm not gonna sit here and fight and argue with Cheney and Lincoln. That's y'all fight, that's your dog, that's your bark, that's your bone. Now, for those who are watching, for those you know, people say, Well, Cheney was the first HBCU by date. Lincoln University of Pennsylvania is the first HBCU to award a college degree. Now you'll know for those who are HBCU graduates, we all gonna have our first, you know, we're gonna find somewhere to get our first in. Just like like just like uh good old sister Dr. Robinson, she's gonna come in here and say yes, privately. You founded by free slaves, Shaw University, the first HBCU south of the Mason Dixon line. So we're gonna find a way to to to to to celebrate somehow. Nonetheless, let's keep going.
SPEAKER_07:Like, uh this is really good.
SPEAKER_13:She said, Hold on, I didn't know. And so hopefully everyone else, you are liking, you're subscribing, you're commenting, you're sharing, you're hitting that thumbs up button. I only got two thumbs up, but I got over 20 some odd people watching. Hit that thumbs up button, stop playing with my emotions. All right, let's keep playing the game. But Nelsa is still killing the game, y'all. I guess Dr. Wall said he quit. What is the youngest HBCU? Lamoran College, Paul Quinn College, or the University of the Virgin Islands. It is the University of the Virgin Islands founded in 1962. They just made the cutoff, they just made it. Wouldn't it be nice to go to school in the Virgin Islands?
SPEAKER_07:Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_13:Come on. We're halfway there, the first African American honor with a U.S. stay out for the late 1800s instituted this famed institute. The John Henry, Paul Robson, James Well the Johnson or Booker T. Washington.
SPEAKER_07:Oh, I messed up.
SPEAKER_06:Whatever it takes too long, If here's the thing.
SPEAKER_13:Oh, I got it. Actually, all four of those gentlemen were honored with a stamp with a United States stamp. But Booker T Washington is connected to Tuskegee, which is now Tuskegee University. Dr. Wall, you made it now. You got Dr. Wall, you got a hard way to get there and a short time to go, but I think you can still you can still kill the game. You can still come in here and sneak it on them. After tossing its football program, this HBCU turned his football team into a farm. Is it Texas College? Hallway College. Houston Tillison College, which is now university, or Lane College. Now their slogan is we over me. They work in a collective space.
Monique Robinson:Yes, I got it.
SPEAKER_13:Cooperative economic system.
SPEAKER_06:That president changed everything up. Yes, he did. I remember that.
SPEAKER_13:All right. So feasion, you on the you on a um six streak, uh correct answer in the wrong. You on you on a hot streak.
SPEAKER_06:I you know, I know some stuff. Just I know a little something. Okay. I know a little something.
SPEAKER_17:Yes. Clock it, clock it, clock it.
SPEAKER_13:Question number 17. On February 1st, 1960, four freshmen from this HBCU sat down at a cigarette lunch counter as the movement began. Is it North Carolina and T State University, Blue Force University, Tusky or Shaw University? Say we shall we shall we shall overcome someday.
SPEAKER_06:Yes, HBCU Jesus got got me.
SPEAKER_13:Yes, it is on the campus. There's a monument statue of those four young men on the campus of ANT State University. Oh, Vanessa, over 10,000 points. Let's go. Question number 18. How many accredited HBCs currently exist? Now, this I'm gonna let you go with the closest number because it varies, you know, depending on what day the wind blows. But right now we're gonna say 102. We're gonna live in that. Congratulations. Yes. Okay, I see y'all out here. I see y'all out here. Question number 19. Andy Robertson Sr. retired from this college football's winning as coach. That was it at Texas Southern, Harrison State. This is the Ballard or Grambling State University.
SPEAKER_06:Who is he?
SPEAKER_13:Did you just say who is he?
SPEAKER_06:I don't know.
SPEAKER_13:Football. Oh, MG.
SPEAKER_06:And I and I go and I go, I went to North Texas, and we were the Ming Green, and I didn't know who Joe Mean Green was, so I don't know who he is.
SPEAKER_11:I'm gonna let you go do your research.
SPEAKER_13:Listen, at the next door meeting, we're gonna let Leon give you a quick little tutorial on Eddie Robinson Sr.
SPEAKER_06:You see, I got it wrong because I don't know who that is.
SPEAKER_13:Now you talk about something.
Monique Robinson:I even said think Leon. I said think Leon, and you picked the wrong thing. Where did you say think Leon at? I said think Leon.
SPEAKER_13:When Moni, your camera was off.
SPEAKER_06:Bro, I'm about to say I didn't see nothing. So you couldn't help me cheat at all. Oh push me off again.
Monique Robinson:Somebody somebody scores shifted that time.
SPEAKER_13:I guess family day. What is the first HBCU?
Monique Robinson:We had this question. I don't know.
SPEAKER_13:Matter of fact, I already said it. I talked about this already. You did.
Monique Robinson:Yes, I got it.
SPEAKER_06:Yes, Lord. I was scared.
Monique Robinson:So really technically, Pendon and Pecia is batting on each other. I don't miss uh Vanessa is way in the way ahead, came in late and beat us both.
SPEAKER_06:I'm not worried about Miss Vanessa at all. Miss Vanessa.
Monique Robinson:I sent her the link to her Facebook page.
SPEAKER_13:So I don't know if Vanessa, you did get the link if you want to join us. Um live on the screen. And Dr. Wall, let us know in the chat if you want to join us live on the screen as well. Again, for those who are just joining us, again, you are watching a Better Chance TV and the HBCU uh alumni house party. This is where it's broadcasting live simultaneously on both channels, and we are playing the HBCU trivia game. Somebody's gonna be walking away with$15 worth of uh Duncan cards. Somebody got gonna get$10 worth of Duncan cards, and somebody will get five dollars worth of Dunkin' cards because America runs on Dunkin' Players. All right, so with that, what was that?
SPEAKER_06:I'm trying to survive a plotted from my life here.
SPEAKER_13:All right, so let's go on to the next question. Is it Bennett College, Smith College, Brown University, or Spelman College? And the correct answer is Bennett College.
SPEAKER_07:Bennett Bangering my face. No, wait. Okay, is the original? Oh, the original sister school.
SPEAKER_13:So there was a relationship between the two founders of the institutions. Um, and become that and I listen, it's just somebody for Morehouse and Bennett to actually tell the story so I don't want to tell a story wrong, but that's the true uh brother sister school. So actually, when Morehouse sometimes has their fellowships, or or when Bennett has something special, Morehouse will go down to the campus and vice versa. You'll have a you have a delegation of Bennett Bell that would come to Morehouse for certain events, even though, yes, because they're next door to each other, Morehouse is well, but they do all the things together. But the original true sister school is Bennett College, located in Greensboro.
SPEAKER_07:I feel like I need to read. I thought I knew my history. I need to read.
SPEAKER_13:So let's keep going. Question 22. Double the points in 1984. You was you must see a PSA commercial single Lynn Zene Price is not asking for a handout, she's asking for a hand.
SPEAKER_12:Oh did you just tell me?
Monique Robinson:Oh no, thank you. I was saying the answer in the back while I was pushing people's comments.
SPEAKER_13:Oh, gave the answer away. I am so sorry.
Monique Robinson:I was gonna put the commercial, they none of good students. Pendon and Peter both was like, Thank you, we know the answer anyway. I was two years old.
SPEAKER_13:Listen, so she used to have a commercial talk about we're not asking for a handout. Just the hey, and so what was this commercial for? You were uh it was a commercial uh for the United Negro College Fund.
SPEAKER_06:I wonder if it's on YouTube because I would love to see that. Is it okay? I'm gonna look it up.
SPEAKER_13:It is, and we'll and Lyon team price. Uh uh Monique is a graduate of what institution?
Monique Robinson:She graduated from my school, but they tried to I was giving you an opportunity to shout it out. Shout out to the Wilburforce University, where I was a proud member of the university course, yeah, and soloist.
SPEAKER_06:Why why do why do all in Ohio gotta say the all HBCU say the no? It's like the Ohio say the well, that's part of their name. The I know that's ridiculous.
SPEAKER_11:D question number 23.
SPEAKER_13:You may get these questions right with the underground railroad.
SPEAKER_07:Wait, I gotta I can't get to my cahoot. No, I can't find wait.
SPEAKER_06:Oh, I got it right.
SPEAKER_07:I couldn't even answer, I couldn't find my cahoot.
SPEAKER_06:Monique, you should be happy. I got it right.
SPEAKER_07:Monique, that's my school.
SPEAKER_06:I mean, you listen when I talk to you. I I do, I do listen. You you talk a lot about Wilberforce.
SPEAKER_13:That's my school, founded by freed slaves, associated with the Underground Railroad. And here's an interesting fact: if you all didn't know, also there is there was an abolitionist by the name of William Wilberforce, of course, who they named the school after. Now, this white man had no knowledge, no clue of the university at the time. He was a his whole story is something that happened in England. But the the African Americans had done the research and saw saw the saw what he had gone through and the fight he went through to for reform and be able to give people a chance and opportunity that they learned about his history and dedicated and named the school after him. Again, this man had no clue about the institution at the time, but they saw value in what he believed in and kept that legacy going.
SPEAKER_06:Awesome, Anthony. I have a question. Yes, did he hang out with any like American abolitionists? I'm thinking like Frederick Douglass or anything like that, you know.
SPEAKER_13:I'm not sure if he ever met any American abolitionists, not to my knowledge, I know it wasn't in history of Wilberforce. Yeah, so I don't know. I don't even think he'd been, I don't even think he was in America, and so this what he did was prior to the even the institution being founded, but they just learned about him and that's oh okay, yeah.
Monique Robinson:However, Frederick Douglass has huge ties to Wilberforce, yeah.
SPEAKER_06:And he went to Europe. That's he went to Europe a lot, so that's why I was wondering maybe if he met him there.
SPEAKER_13:So the one over here said you've been you over here taking notes and learning. You ready to share this with some scholars that you know? Mm-hmm. I'm taking it.
Monique Robinson:So you could have played, they was getting them wrong too.
SPEAKER_13:All right, let's get back to the game. We're doing pretty good.
Monique Robinson:Keisha pin up the phone.
SPEAKER_07:I gotta go in a minute.
Monique Robinson:Okay, and I'll get your prize if you win.
SPEAKER_07:I didn't win, but that okay.
Monique Robinson:Uh-oh, see, see, she came in the village. Miss Vanessa has entered the village.
SPEAKER_16:I got it right. Yes.
SPEAKER_07:Yep.
unknown:I got it right.
SPEAKER_14:Not a tablet.
SPEAKER_05:Oh remember you talking about it about if I got it right. I didn't get it right.
SPEAKER_13:Is it?
SPEAKER_05:I got it right.
SPEAKER_13:Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. Now, also, you know, you saw another Lincoln University on the list. Lincoln University of Missouri is in no relation to Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. It just happened to have the same name.
SPEAKER_07:Wow.
SPEAKER_13:Let's keep it going. We're almost there in 1892. Blank and Blake played each other from the first HBCU football game. Is it living showing John C. Smith? Lincoln and Cheney, Sean Hampton, Tuskegee and Miles. The first HBCU football game. Look at the colors and Cheney, Sean Hampton, Tuskegee, and it is Livingstone College and John C. Smith University. Back then it was called Biddle College. That was the original name of Johnson C. Smith.
SPEAKER_06:We all said the same thing. Uh-uh.
SPEAKER_13:Question number 27 in 1993. You would see if there then is famous slogan to say among several in the ways, but I want to send them to what?
Monique Robinson:I want to tell her so bad.
SPEAKER_05:I don't know if I got it.
Monique Robinson:Oh gosh. What you pick? I got it. Yay!
SPEAKER_13:I almost slipped and said it. Oh my gosh.
Monique Robinson:Me too.
SPEAKER_06:You should have, like you did last time.
SPEAKER_13:Is it 101, 37, 42, or 50?
SPEAKER_17:Damn.
SPEAKER_13:Right now it's 37. Now, even though here's another teachable moment, real quick. Even though UNCF supports 37 private HBCUs, we have students on scholarship at over a thousand institutions across the country. So what does that mean? The dollars follow the student. We support students across the country at a number of HBCUs and beyond. So even though there are 100 plus HBCUs, we do primarily give direct support to schools like Wilbur Force, Bethune Cookman, uh Shaw University, just to name a few. However, we have students on scholarship at a number of institutions across the country. To learn more and how you can apply for a scholarship, you gotta go to uncf.org slash scholarships for more information. All right, let's keep this game going. We are almost done, you all. Somebody is about to win real quick.
SPEAKER_06:Somebody's about to give something to eat.
Monique Robinson:I need you to win, so I can share.
SPEAKER_06:I'm at least give five dollars.
SPEAKER_13:Oh my god, more than one answer. I heard they party all the time, they're hard to get accepted to. They don't prepare you for the real world. Schools are below average. The nerd. What I've heard all those and still hear them today in 2025.
SPEAKER_06:Dang, yeah.
SPEAKER_13:Listen, party schools, whatever. I don't want to hear that. I oh wait a minute.
Monique Robinson:Uh-uh. That changed. Something changed.
SPEAKER_06:I'm about to give my five dollars though.
SPEAKER_13:The last question. When did Fred and Mary start UNCL?
SPEAKER_06:You talked about it, so we did talk about this. Um, I don't know if I got it right though.
Monique Robinson:What the government, yes, I got it. Did she move up? She got five dollars.
SPEAKER_07:Yeah, she got five dollars. I got five dollars.
SPEAKER_06:Let's see.
SPEAKER_07:This was so good. Oh, pentagon. I can't oh I got ten dollars.
SPEAKER_06:Oh god, why this was so good. This is really dope, and just a fun fact. Miss Pathon came to San Antonio, and I actually have a picture of her because she was here for a retreat to talk about the state of education.
SPEAKER_13:So every time I do my green with Tori, congratulations to Pinda uh for Pecia for second place, and Vanessa for first place. You all are going to Duncan uh because why America runs on Duncan?
SPEAKER_06:I cannot so what we will do is free advertisement.
SPEAKER_13:Um Vanessa, we will coordinate because I'm still here in New York City. She all here. Yay, yay, yay, yay. So Vanessa, what we will do is I'll see you before I leave the great state of New York, and I'll make sure I put these in your hand. Uh we're supposed to be going to Nettie's.
Monique Robinson:What's Nettie's? You can't miss Vanessa Lady watching it. We got the time today to go to Nettie's.
SPEAKER_13:So we're going to some soul for restaurant. So thank you for joining us. So for Pecia, I will make sure I will take a picture of this and I will send you. If you have the Dunkin' app again, because they do expire on the 31st, but if you have a Dunkin' app, once I send you the promo code and the um the password, you can just add this to your Dunkin' app and you can use them beyond the 31st of December. All right, one too, and pin to you as well. Yay. So ladies and gentlemen, hey, ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for joining us and watching us today and playing the HBCU trivia again. Now, again, Monique talk amongst yourselves.
Monique Robinson:I don't know what he got going on over there, but before we go, I would like to say everybody have a safe, happy, happy, blessed Christmas, holiday, Kwanzaa, whatever mode you want to celebrate. But um definitely um take care of yourself. And if anybody else wants to say a final thought, oh go ahead before we get out of here.
SPEAKER_17:Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas.
SPEAKER_06:Make sure you rest. Rest is resistance.
Monique Robinson:Yes, ma'am. I hear you. I heard you.
SPEAKER_06:Yes, remember the reason for the season. There you go. Black Jesus.
Monique Robinson:I can't with you today. Guys, this is this is you guys did good. I couldn't play the game because I actually won it um when we did a a virtual thing before. And so Mr. the guy that one of the creators of the game that is one of our icon winners this year, he um I'm gonna see if he can bring out some games when at the gala or bring some and talk about it, do like a mini workshop or something.
SPEAKER_13:All right, so here's the here's the board game. It is real, it happens. So if you want to copy a good game again, you gotta go um and go purchase one online. Let's see again. So before we get up out of here, I do want to share with people one more time information about the game. Again, you gotta go and check it out. You need this in your life, you need it with your family, with your alumni chapters, you need it with um the uh student recruitment, all those things.
SPEAKER_09:Celebrate the excellence of HPCU with the HPCU trivia game. This board game provides an exciting and educational way to learn about notable alumni, historical events, sports news, and more. This trivia game is sure to be a fit and perfect for college-bound youth, alumni, and the entire family. Don't miss out on this opportunity to support, educate, and entertain the HBCU Trivia Game today. Go to HBCU Trivia Game.net to order.
SPEAKER_13:Hey, so before we get about it here today, uh, as Monique said, um, we want to wish everybody a happy holidays and all that. You know, I like all this is something I can do now. I just think it's so important as we as we transition throughout the winter season and we're resting and we're resetting and we are recalibrating. We are recalibrating. Uh, we want to be able to share any good news that's happening. So sometimes, you know, as we leave as we lean into Kwanzaa season as well, um, I want to just ask everyone their harigani. And for those who may not be familiar with that, that that term, it you know, it talks about what is the news or what is the good news, what is happening in your world that you want to share with everyone today. So we're gonna just go around the room real quick and actually wanted to share your harigani moment. Fortunately, matter of fact, now we kind of close our board meeting. Now we closed our board meeting the other day about the good news that's happening. So, Penda, we're gonna start with you.
SPEAKER_07:Sorry, I was muted. My harbarigani is that my daughter completed her first semester of college away from home. She did well in school, is very independent. And while she was away, I wrote my first novel and launched it this year. So I'm really proud of the transition of being an empty nester with my husband, but also finding Pinda in the meantime.
SPEAKER_13:Oh, you better find Pinda. And speaking of books, hey, we still got the Portions of Education on sale. The uh the anthology volume one. And here's a little known little known secret. We'll be dropping volume two. We're gonna well, we're starting to write volume two as we speak. So if you want to be a part of that edition, make sure you reach out to Dr. Robinson so you can see how you can be a part of that production. All right, let's go on to Dr. Gauche. What is your Herbaragani moment?
SPEAKER_04:Um, well, um a couple of them. Well, my daughter, she finished closing up her house and stuff, so she got that so I'm happy about that. But I am um super excited about the art contest um that we have going on. It's open to everyone now. Um, so for the new book um coming up. So um it starts January 1st and goes on today.
SPEAKER_13:Congratulations on that contest and the book and all of those great things. Peace, what's going on, sis? What is your Habarigani moment?
SPEAKER_06:Um I will say that my moment is that God gave me the grace to live another year. And sometimes we have to reflect on a lot of things in life, and that's one thing that I continue to thank him for is that he gave me that grace.
SPEAKER_13:Come on, that grace. I love it Dr. Robinson.
Monique Robinson:I uh have so much to be um thankful for just this year alone. But I I am grateful to have dedicated people that um one are are engulfed in the mission and I don't have to like dig, pull, or ask, and y'all just show up. Um but most importantly, y'all are holding me accountable to getting rest. So this week I am actually going to do that. So I'm excited about that. Getting some rest. But um I'm also excited that this year we have some young people that are ready to do the living wax museum. So if you want to sign up for that, we still have room for young people for that. That's a chance that they get to become historic figurines for the day and they acted out for a prize. So um that's that's mine. And I just want everybody to rest because we got uh another half of the year to get through.
SPEAKER_13:Yeah, and finally, ladies and gentlemen, again, thank you again so much for watching. I think my good news, my Habaragani, is that Dina, I woke up this morning. How about that? Uh, today has been a good day. Uh, usually on December 23rd, I don't always have the best of day because today would have been my father's birthday. Um, and so but my son woke me up like, okay, come on, let's do something. Let's do something and let's do something. So I'm glad I'm able to be here in New York City with him for the holidays. So I'm just having a good time. Um, some days I go my way, he goes his way, but then sometimes we do things together. So just to be just to be in his company, um, and maybe just to still share resources and ideas and wisdom.
SPEAKER_14:You know, I find myself like, hey, we always try to figure this out. Listen to that type of thing. So the sharing of information and legacy and originally at the same time. I'm excited about you know because you have you know the year with you, bring in the new year as well before making a road trip back to Ohio with all your shopping eggs.
SPEAKER_13:Oh no, right, and I found one baby. I found this one store that's got a 50% off sale. Uh yeah, I'm sorry I digress. Uh, but with that, ladies and gentlemen, listen, you have been watching a better chance for UTV and the HB Cell in the House Party show. Uh, we've been collabing and tag teaming this. So thank you so very much for joining us today and being a part of this episode, this live show that we don't do too often. But I hope you had a great time. Hope you had a great time playing the trivia game. You learned something new um over the break. And don't just keep this to yourself now. Go share it with somebody else. Monique, anything else we got?
Monique Robinson:Nothing else. Uh, get those nominations in because this is gonna be a tough competition here. So you'll think so.
SPEAKER_13:I think it will be.
SPEAKER_08:I think so.
SPEAKER_13:All right, then ladies and gentlemen, y'all have a good one. Merry Christmas, happy holidays, uh, happy Kwanzaa, happy new year. We will see you in 2026.
